It’s Coming… Qatar 2022
The countdown to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 officially begins. This international competition gathers 32 nations from around the world to compete for the prize. This year the host country is Qatar.
and unlike previous World Cups, which usually take place during the summer months June-July, will take place in November- December due to the extreme heat that the country experiences in the summer.
We are less than 30 days away from the inauguration of this competition and as a futbol enthusiast, I couldn't be more thrilled and excited for the upcoming months. A World Cup is special because it only comes around every 4 years and it's a time when every fan of the sport comes together to share their love and passion for the game.
I have mixed feelings about going into this World Cup. The reason I say that is because for some players this will be their last opportunity to take their country to the top. Players such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo but also players that I grew up watching such as Gullimero Ochoa, Andres Guardado, and Hector Moreno. I have witnessed and cheered for their participation in the last 3 World Cups and it amazes me that they continued to succeed in their own way. In the World Cups, I have always supported the national team of Mexico no matter what condition they are in when they enter the competition. In the qualifying or preparation games, Mexico usually makes an effort to succeed in my expectations, however, this year is an exception.
Just like in every sport there are fans that have their opinions and critiques of every decision that is made inside the team such as the performance of the coach and the players for example. Fans of the Mexican National Team "El Tri" are no different when it comes to the performance of the team. I believe that the supporters of "El Tri" are way harsher toward their team than any other fans of their teams. Whenever a new coach is hired and it's not producing the results that the fans want to see, the fans begin criticizing and insulting the coach and the federation. I never justified the fan's response until now.
The era of Gerardo "Tata" Martino in the Seleccion Mexicana has been dissatisfying. This comes after Mexico lost to the U.S in the Gold Cup and Nations League. So what does that say about the readiness of the Mexican National Team? Every coach has their own perception to do things on the field, for example, the former coach of El Tri, Juan Carlos Osorio, used to be criticized for the number of changes he made in the roster. Personally, I saw that as a good thing because it gave me a chance in the games of preparation to see the performances of the players. It gave the coach an idea of what worked and what didn't, but the fans didn't see it that way.
Now, we have to settle for a man that disapproves of a player because he became problematic for the Mexican Federation. I refused to believe that it's the lack of talent is the reason the player is not being called to the national team. Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez became one of the reasons that I started to cheer for the Mexican National team. I believed that his talent could help shape the national team and he did by becoming the #1 lead scorer for the Mexican National Team. So that's why I don't understand the reason why the coach and the Mexican federation are refusing to acknowledge him for the national team.
So, with the absence of el Chicharito, I am not expecting much from the Mexican team and their performance in the World Cup. I would rather be surprised than disappointed. Don't get me wrong, there are great players on the team such as Chucky Lozano, Edson Alvarez, and newcomer Santiago Gimenez and I believe they are the future of Mexico. However, I do believe that due to the injuries of Jesus "El Tecatito" Corona and the low performance of Raul Jimenez, it would be a good idea to get el Chicharito to the national team.
Unfortunately, we don't have control over who goes or not to the World Cup. Despite the poor decisions that the Mexican Federation are making, the only choice I have is to support the players in their journey to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
